    • Save the file somewhere on your computer.

    • Go to your menu in Firefox and select OPEN - Open File.

    • Find the file you downloaded and open it

    • Click INSTALL

Instructions on how to use the extension

Hopefully it should be pretty much self explanatory but heres a blow by blow description.

The Black Logo that appears at the bottom of your screen is a clickable link that will take you to your homepage on MySpace.

Whenever you get a message, comment etc, feel free to click it and it will take you there.

Next to the Logo, is a link called MySpaceMozilla Options. Click this link. You will discover a whole menu set of options. From sorting your friends list out, to backing up your profile. Its all there. Anything that needs further clarification, will have a popup alert box to let you know what you need to do next, if anything. We try and hand hold you all the way if we can to make it as easy as possible for you.

Something gone wrong? Read here first

Easily the biggest problem I have had when it comes to the extension is the myspace site itself. Hands up anyone who hasnt had problems with 'Sorry this section is undergoing maintainence' or the fact the site runs like a dog. If it is going slow, you may notice the extension not updating as often as it should etc. This is because the extension only spends a certain amount of time requesting the page to check. If it doesnt load in this time, then too bad, the update will have to wait till next time around! So if its not updating as you would expect, almost certainly it will have to do with the myspace site running slow.

One other problem is that the myspace forums cant count properly! Whilst testing this extension I have come across no less than 10 examples of a thread stating 'showing 1-15 of 401 threads' but then actually stating on the front page that there are 490 threads. This can cause some discrepencies in the numbers being registered. But again, thats myspace's fault, not mine! lol.

How secure is this extension? What about my username/password?

To check that you have mail, comments etc you need to be logged in to myspace. The reason? cause the extension cant do it. In fact if you kickstart firefox for the first time (so you havent been logged into myspace or whatever, you are starting a session from scratch) and DONT log into myspace, you will notice that the icon actually stays black. It can never turn red till you have logged into myspace.com because it doesnt have your username or password. Once you are logged in you can then go to google or somewhere else on the web and it will keep track of any mails you get but only if you DONT sign out. If you sign out, again the extension will stop working.

Want an example of the danger of me asking for your username and password? There is another myspace extension out there called myspacetoolbar (dont bother downloading it its nothing more than a glorified bookmark gallery). It allows you to store your username and password. And you know what, that username and password is totally unencrypted . If I came round to your house I could discover it within minutes. If I was a hacker I could probably discover it in even less time :)

Thats why the extension will never ask you for your username/password and why it never records that information.

If you want an analogy, think of yourself as a storeshop owner and the extension is an employee. The extension can run around and do all the work for you, but only once you, the storeshop owner, with the keys to the place, have let it in. You dont open the store (ie log into myspace), the extension cant do anything.

    WHAT'S NEXT

Features aimed exclusively for the 'music' side of MySpace including seeing who has your songs playing on their profile.

Scan your friends for any worms/viruses.

Scan pending friend requests for those that are purely aimed at encouraging you to download the 'adult profile viewer' or trying to infect your profile with a worm.

No ads on MySpace ...... get rid of those pesky ads!
